Introduction about the company

A leading non-state degree awarding institute approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the Universities Act. SLIIT was established in 1999. Offering both undergraduate and postgraduate courses and accommodating over 9000 students and including international students from various regions in the world. More than 15000 alumni have graduated from its faculties. SLIIT take great pride in producing graduates who make meaningful contributions to their communities and professions.

Issues faced by SLIIT

The website was not generating any leads or inquiries. Their site was outdated, had inadequate templates and was difficult to update. They lacked branch wise inquiries in potential students thereby loosing revenue for the company. They required a website that would be their main marketing tool and serve as a permanent first impression for prospective students. The administrators of the University were further faced with the burden of continuous following ups with the developers each time they wanted to update and maintain the website.

Objectives of the project

After many discussions to gather all the crucial information we needed to get started, we focused on several main angles.

  • Back end content flexibility
  • Gain more branch wise inquiries
  • To showcase that SLIIT has partnership with corporate companies, where students in turn get acquired for internships.

Bringing the design to life, the revamped site was built to give administrators the ability to update page content, graphics, news articles and much more with ease! With varying levels of administrator access and custom designed page templates, each division of SLIIT could edit their own pages with confidence.

The technologies used in the website

The whole design and development of the web application were carried out by the Web Lankan team with attention to detail. WordPress, PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, hosted in AWS environment with high infrastructure were applied and used appropriately for the betterment of the website.

The outcomes of the project and the benefits achieved by the company

Following this, Web Lankan gradually updated the website design and responsivity for the rest of the site. The new changes have also made it easier for staff to maintain and operate the website in the back-end, with options to promote priority content and course details. The site also achieved Most Popular University and Education Institute Website and Silver award for Best University and Education Institute Website at the Awards 2019, and now has numerous new potential inquiries and traffic to the site. The NSBM site has improved user experience for current and prospective students.
